Genmaicha - green tea blended with toasted rice - has been a staple of Japanese daily ritual for centuries. Originally a humble, sustaining drink, it has become beloved worldwide for its extraordinary flavour and its gentle, grounding energy. Where straight green tea can feel sharp or astringent, the roasted rice smooths everything: adding warmth, body, and a toasty nutty depth that makes this the most approachable cup in the SU CHI range.
We source exclusively from ITO EN, Japan's most respected single-origin tea producer. This is your everyday cup. Your grounding ritual. The one that asks nothing of you except to slow down and enjoy it.
Two ingredients. One trusted source. ITO EN single-origin, Japan.
Single-origin Japanese green tea sourced exclusively from ITO EN, one of Japan's most trusted and long-established tea producers. Naturally rich in L-theanine (which promotes calm alertness), catechins (potent antioxidants), and chlorophyll. Provides a low-to-moderate level of caffeine - enough to support gentle focus and mental clarity without overstimulation. The green tea base is harvested with precision to ensure a clean, smooth, non-astringent cup.
Traditional Japanese genmai (roasted brown rice) gives this blend its signature toasty, nutty, popcorn-like warmth. The roasting process transforms the rice into something deeply aromatic - it softens the grassy notes of the green tea and adds a natural sweetness and body. Gluten-free. Sourced alongside the green tea from ITO EN's single-origin supply chain.
Gentle and grounding with a beautiful toasty, nutty warmth from the roasted rice, layered over the clean, soft grassy sweetness of the Japanese green tea. Smooth, rounded, and never astringent when brewed correctly. One of the most immediately satisfying cups in the SU CHI range - equal parts comforting and uplifting.
The Morning Transition: If you are reducing your coffee intake, SU CHI GENMAICHA is the ideal bridge. Its low-to-moderate caffeine content supports alertness without the cortisol spike of coffee, and the L-theanine promotes a calm, focused state many people find more productive than the coffee buzz.
The Japanese Ceremony: Brew your genmaicha in a small ceramic teapot and pour into a small handleless cup. Sit. Do not scroll. Take three breaths. This is a two-minute practice that creates a genuine pause in the day - and the ritual compounds in value over time.
The Re-Steep Afternoon: At around 2pm, re-steep the morning's leaves for a second, lighter infusion. The second steep is softer, almost milky in character, with less caffeine and more sweetness - the perfect light-touch afternoon pick-me-up.
Caffeine Advisory: SU CHI GENMAICHA contains a low-to-moderate amount of caffeine from the Japanese green tea component. Those sensitive to caffeine should limit to 1 cup per day or avoid late-day consumption.
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding: Green tea is generally considered safe in moderation during pregnancy (1 cup per day), but caffeine content should be considered alongside other caffeine sources. The general guidance is to keep total daily caffeine below 200mg. Consult your midwife or healthcare practitioner for personalised guidance.
Iron Absorption: The tannins in green tea may inhibit non-haem iron absorption when consumed with or immediately after meals. If managing iron-deficiency anaemia, allow at least 30-60 minutes between meals and your green tea.
Medication Interactions: Green tea may interact with Warfarin and other anticoagulant medications at high doses. If on prescription medications, consult your practitioner.
